Think your life is not interesting enough to record?
I bet your family disagrees.
You remember things they don't.
You knew people they never met.
You lived through things they only heard about.
You remember what your parents were like.
Maybe even your grandparents.
And you know the story behind pictures your family would otherwise have to guess about.
You do not need to sit down and record 70 years of your life.
Please don't.
Start with one thing.
What was your first job?
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Who made the biggest difference in your life?
What did you do for fun?
What is something your kids probably don't know?
You can answer one of those.
ANYONE can do that.
Need help thinking of something?
Use Guided Stories inside AfterLyfe.
You get an open-ended question.
You talk.
If you get stuck trying to start, use the fill-in-the-blank option.
Got a box full of old pictures?
Even better.
Pick one.
Tell us who is in it.
Where you were.
What was going on.
What happened that day.
The picture does not know any of that.
You do.
Got old videos too?
Watch them and talk about what you remember.
You have seen people do this in documentaries a million times.
The clip plays.
Then they explain:
“Here's what was really happening.”
Now your family gets the clip and the story.
How much do you remember about your grandparents?
Their jobs?
Their personalities?
What they went through?
How they met?
Where they came from?
You might know things your grandchildren will never know unless somebody records them.
Make sure your grandkids know you better than you knew your grandparents.
You can talk about today too.
This does not all have to be:
“Back in 1963...”
You can use AfterLyfe like a video journal.
Talk about what happened today.
Something you're thinking about.
Something funny.
Something that bothered you.
Something you are excited about.
Your life story is still happening.
And your family can help.
If you do not know what to record, let them ask you.
Trust me.
They probably have questions.
